Change of Plans

My plans for Ash Wednesday were all set, I was going to go to 8:15 am Mass with Henry, the Kindergartners, and Sophie.  That leaves out two of our family and there's a lesson there, which will be worked on.  After Mass Sophie and I were going to volunteer in the Kindergarten classroom, pick Karley up from school and then come home for the afternoon.

The night before I saw that the Pope was going to be doing his last public Mass on Ash Wednesday and it would be aired live on EWTN.  I was bummed I wouldn't get to see it.  I confess, I watch EWTN a lot.

Ash Wednesday Karley woke up, for the second day in a row, a low grade fever.  Change of plans.  Henry rode with another girl from school and we stayed home.  I was bummed not to get to Mass with Henry, especially since he had a rough day at school the day before, then I remembered.  I would be able to to watch the entire Ash Wednesday Mass with Pope Benedict!

It was absolutely beautiful and I cried.  I was in awe of the reverence, beauty of the music, garments, just everything.  It was amazing, I can't even belief what it might have been like in person.  I think the two minute standing ovation could have went on longer if the Pope didn't ask for people to return to prayer.  It made me want to catch the next flight to Rome!  Now I think we really must get there sometime during our life.

In the end I went to Mass alone, in town, versus at the church we belong to.  I can't even put into words how awesome Ash Wednesday service was.  I'm just in awe of our beautiful church.  Jesus knew what he was doing when he left the keys to Peter.

Yesterday was a beautiful day to start Lent.

----

Today I had to quick look to see what Cari had up her sleeve, turns out she wanted to see some trees or leaves.  I quickly changed my lens out and looked outside.  The snow that I was not loving last night walking to my car brought a beautiful morning for taking pictures of trees.  I actually ventured a few steps away from the car.

I couldn't decide on one, although I do have a favorite.  I'd be curious to know your favorite.

1. Shot in A, 1/640, f5, iso 250, 122mm

2. Ack!  I used the beach/snow setting, 1/400, f11 (see I should get out of low f stops), iso 200, 150mm

3. Shot in A, 1/400, f5, iso 250, 122mm

4. again beach/snow setting, 1/320, f10, iso200, 86mm

5. beach/snow, 1/320, f10, iso200, 78mm

Thanks Cari for hosting and getting me outside again!

PS.  My kids were late for school today.  :)

Happy Valentine's Day!

  1. How do we pick a favorite? If I had to say, #4 - it's so clear and you can almost feel the cold through the image.

    1. It was a morning of beauty, hence the reason I put more than one up there. But 1 & 5 were my top two.

    1. My top two were 1 & 5....1 winning out just a little because of the sun and that I shot it in A mode versus beach/snow. :)

    1. I bet you could watch on EWTN....it was on there at the same time. I bet they have it archived. I was amazed by the reverence and honestly the clothing struck me. I'm also a Downton Abbey fan and am in awe of their clothing. :)

  8. They are all gorgeous! Bur the light in the first one! Amazing! I'm so tired of cold winter light. That dreamy golden is just perfect.

    1. Number one was my favorite too. I had to be quick because I knew the sun would change or be gone for the rest of the day as often is the case. So, the kids were late for school!

I'm a little tired of living in grey as well! :)
